Be Strong

I recently found out a friend of mine's mother is battling breast cancer, so a special gift for her this Valentine's Day was in order during this particularly trying time. Together, we decided on a hand-lettered print with some pink flowers (a tribute to Think Pink) and a verse from Deuteronomy that is a sweet reminder that our great God will never leave her. Paired with a nice white frame, this made for a thoughtful and inspiring gift. If you or someone you know is going through a hard season, I hope you'll find comfort in this truth.

Mardi Gras Lovin

As I might have mentioned a few...hundred or so...times, I've gone back to my roots to help fundraise for Kenya and have been making headbands and hair clips and all those pretty little things that helped cushion my pockets my senior year of college. One thing that hasn't changed over my years of idleness is my love of custom orders.

A friend and old co-worker of mine goes down to New Orleans every year for Mardi Gras with her entire family and asked me to create some pieces for her three adorable little nieces to wear - while they enjoy the daytime activities, I'll have you know. This was a really fun project because not only did I get to use feathers and bright colors, but I cut up some strands of beads and threw those in the mix, all in the spirit of Mardi Gras. I'm happy with the outcome and hope to see some photos of these little ladies making their debut on Bourbon Street!

Tag It // 01

I love gift wrapping, but outside of Christmas I don't typically have the supplies for it. An alternative? Just tag it! Gift tags are a really easy way to make a big difference in gift presentation any time of the year for holidays, birthdays, or just a "thinking of you" gift. And so begins a new series here on Flowers are Lovely called TAG IT where I will share printable gift tag designs.

For Valentine's Day, I wanted to put together some little gifts for my small group and a few other friends. I picked up some various pink drinks in pretty glass bottles and baked some chocolate chip cookies with seasonal M&M's. Using these conversation heart designs printed on thick stock paper, I made gift tags and hung them on each bottle or tied them to a bag of cookies. Makes for a pretty cute gift and most importantly, it's super easy!

Outgoing Mail

Anytime I open the mailbox and see my name and address written (not typed!) across an envelope that's noticeably smaller than the legal-sized spam I typically receive in the mail, my heart skips a beat and my day is instantly brighter. This little act of receiving a letter or invite or thank you card has always been exciting for me, but especially these days when, sadly, an Evite is easier or an email is quicker. It means so much to me to get something in the mail and sharing the love is just as fun.

With my Kenya fundraising, I've had more reason to send out cards lately. While I love creating the card itself, I've come to really enjoy making the envelope equally special. Here are a few ideas from across the internet for decorating your outgoing envelopes.

Two Months to Go

We had our third team meeting for Kenya yesterday to learn more about what we'll be doing in the children's camp and can I just say that all I can think about is how excited I am to meet the kids? Almost everything I've heard from those who have gone to Kenya before me has been about these kids - their loving nature, their rich spirit for life. A lot of people have asked me if I'm nervous about the trip, but honestly I haven't gotten to that point yet. I just want to get there and get started!

As of today, there are exactly two months to go. We leave April 10th - a fact I can hardly believe - and this Thursday, half of our fundraising goal is due. I feel incredibly fortunate to report that thanks to the many, many generous donations I have received, I am well over halfway there! Our flights are being purchased in the coming week, making everything feel very real to me. A booked flight! Hooray!

To continue my fundraising, I've listed several new items to my shop. I'm going to get a lot more up in the next few weeks, especially some cute Easter headbands for kiddos. Thanks again to everyone who has supported me financially so far, and even more thanks to those of you who are keeping our team in your prayers.
