Marathon Monday: Week One (and done)

Raise your hand if you love them Daaaaaawgs!

Now that that's out of the way... My first week of marathon training has come and gone and it was - dare I admit it - rather pleasant. I learned early in the week that my best friend (you may remember him from our Costa Rica trip) would be in town for the UGA/UT game. I was initially worried about my decision to go to the Classic City (otherwise known as Athens, GA) Friday night because it presented an obstacle for my training schedule. The program I'm following is Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday runs and let's be real: running Saturday morning in Athens post-night-out-downtown (drinking or not, which I was not) and pre-day-of-tailgating just seems exhausting and insufferable.

Fortunately, I was able to squeeze in Saturday's run on Friday, followed by 10+ hours of catch-up sleep on Saturday back in Atlanta, then my long run on Sunday before a day filled with church, my friend's twins' second birthday party and a big family dinner - all conveniently situated about 25 miles from each other. Needless to say, I'm rather exhausted at the moment, so my Monday rest day is much needed and appreciated.

But it's back to the grind tomorrow, people!

Dawgs win! Dawgs win! Dawgs win!

Running breakdown:
Tuesday: 3 miles
Thursday: 4 miles
Friday: 3.6 miles
Sunday: 6 miles

I didn't exactly stick to the weights/core portion of the plan, but there's time for that. New running shoes are a must sometime in the next month. My Nike Free Run 2's are on their last legs (feet?) and probably aren't the kind of support I need over the next 15 weeks.

But for now, onward and upward!
