Sassy Puppy

When I chose the title of this post, I sensed a hint of familiarity. Is it maybe because once upon a time I wrote about a sassy baby here on Flowers are Lovely?

Anyway.

My boyfriend's parents are getting a Yorkie and I wanted to give them something for the new pup. I first considered picking out a collar and leash set, but at the last minute went for these two sweaters instead.

Knowing me, though, I couldn't let these babies out the door without first bedazzling them a bit.

One word: saaaassy. Honestly, can you think of anything that can rock this look better than a Yorkie named Coco Chanel?

On a Whim

My ideas of a romantic Valentine's Day tea party have evolved to a more whimsical feel. Think bright colors, fun prints, and maybe some sparkle here and there.

The invitations are finished and I think they turned out pretty well considering my lackluster knowledge of Illustrator. I love the little blue birds (sister's idea) and especially the playful touch his gold crown adds.

Next up: picking out dessert recipes (most likely via Smitten Kitchen) and creating decorations.

Pink & Red

While it's barely 2011, Valentine's Day is just around the corner. To celebrate, my sister is throwing a party at her new house and has enlisted yours truly to help bring Cupid's Day to life.

As much as I would love to use more pennant flags, I'm going to try branching out. I'm currently inspired by romantic tea parties, so my first thoughts are of pale pink flowers with pops of red, mini cakes, and lots of lace. I'm normally not a huge fan of the color red (sorry, Dawgs), but I just can't protest varying shades of light pink and red on February 14th.

I would love to find a way to incorporate this backdrop from the Ruche Holiday Look Book, but in shades of pink and red. Don't some of the strands look like cupcake papers?

Lastly (for today), below are two snippets of (very rough) invitation designs I've been toying with this weekend. The first one is more a page of ideas, and the wording is definitely wrong on the second one.

Here's to hoping that baby gets out soon and can be in attendance at the party!

little things

I've never been a fan of this dreary Atlanta weather, but at least while being snowed in, I've had time to catch up on a few things (between responding to work emails and cooking, that is).

For one, I redesigned the banner on this page - hooray! I've been thinking about it for a while and only now had the chance to get after it.

This actually happened a week or so ago, but I finally added cute gold knot buttons to this old red cardigan - such an easy way to salvage a piece of clothing I otherwise didn't care for.

Also (unrelated to getting things accomplished), can you believe these pretty green recycled glasses were only $2 each at Pier 1? Shut up, right? I haven't been to Pier 1 in years, but it was obviously worth the trip this time.

So I guess the only thing I caught up on was blogging.

Oh, The Holidays

This holiday season has been a complete whirlwind. Since I never blog in a timely fashion (I am the absolute worst!), here a few pictures from the most wonderful time of the year.

Per family tradition, Christmas Eve was spent at my church for a beautiful candle lighting service.

I finally got all my shopping done the week of Christmas and had some time left over to make this stocking for my boyfriend. This was our first Christmas together in the same country (nuts!), so I made him a stocking like the ones my mom made for all my sisters when we were younger. My mom made the actual stocking part (I can't use a sewing machine...don't judge) and I made all the pieces by hand. P.S. Gift wrapping is my favorite.

The 29th was my boyfriend's birthday, for which I made a tiramisu cake. I know, I know - I am absolutely obsessed with Smitten Kitchen and once again Deb did not let me down because it was delicious.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures from New Years, but rest assured it was a good time. I did, however, take this picture today of my Chinese fortune, and that must count for something.

Hooray for the New Year! I'm pretty excited for 2011 - it's going to be a good year for sure.
