How does Bakerella do it?

In an attempt to present a treat both viciously adorable and equally delicious at the Grady Easter Egg Hunt tomorrow (presented by UGA AdClub!), Morgan and I decided to try our luck with Bakerella's cake pops.

Now, I'm not going to lie. We got off to a rough start. I feel I would be doing a disservice by not showing a picture:

But things got better.

And better.

And better.

Sure, these don't look like these (how does she do it?!), but I'm happy with them for my first attempt.

Happy Easter, folks.

Custom Orders are Great

When your customers are so creative, what's not to like about making a custom order? They always have such great ideas. For example, my very first custom-requesting customer (the lovely Miss Claire) asked for a grey flower, something I hadn't thought of before. Well, that grey flower became very popular and I have since sold probably somewhere close to 20 of them.

...which leads me to a recent custom order: a tweaked version of the tried and true grey flower.

and a black flower with pearls

Per the same girl's request, I made a brown flower on a brown headband. I love how versatile this flower will be. Brown goes with just about everything.

I also bought some zebra fabric tonight, but unfortunately it doesn't translate well to flowers. It just looks like black, white, and tan stripes, which still looks good...but it's not zebra. I guess the hunt for the perfect zebra print is still on.

New items in my shop!

Today was a beautiful, sunny, 74 degree spring day in Athens. It was the perfect day for a run at the Botanical Gardens or a walk around campus, but I spent the better half of the afternoon uploading new items into my Etsy shop. Go figure.

Here are some of my favorites:

Tell me these wouldn't be perfect in a kitchen with roosters
(you know how so many kitchens have rooster decorations?)

I hope someone buys this for Easter...
But no hard feelings if not because I will just keep it for myself!

It's almost Easter!

Easter is definitely one of my favorite times of year. Not only is it a great holiday, but it also marks a pivotal point in the changing of the seasons. After Easter, cold and dreary winter days are replaced with warm and sunny spring afternoons; heavy jackets and socks turn to cardigans and brightly-colored flats...Easter weekend marks that spring is finally here! To top it off, all of my favorite spring flowers are in bloom - tulips, daffodils, peonies, pansies...

For this upcoming Easter, I went a little crazy with buying fabrics. It seemed as if every store I went, a new pattern or pastel fabric was right in front of me - inspiring me and waiting to be purchased. Right before spring break, I made about 100 headbands, barrettes, and magnets. Yikes! Luckily, I had an event at my friend Angela's church and was able to sell some of my pieces to some of the lovely women of C3 church. But...I still have 20+ flowers left!

Here's a sample of my Easter collection:

I love the pattern one here - it looks like a dyed Easter egg!

Bows are quickly becoming one of my favorite new accessories

Not sure if you can tell in the picture, but the yellow one is actually yellow and white checkers

I just wanted to share what I have been working on. Later this week I need to make two white flowers for a friend's daughters to match their white eyelet Easter dresses and will post pictures once I do so!

If you're interested in any of the above, please email me! (flowersarelovely{@}gmail{dot}com) I will hopefully be uploading most of these in my Etsy shop by the end of this weekend.

Now off to celebrate my birthday!

New Friends

You know when you meet a person and think, "Wow, I like you. We will be friends."

I love that.

I swear sometimes you can tell just by looking at a person that you two are incredibly similar and would get along well. It's like the friendship version of love at first sight.

Just a thought.

Inspired By: Natural Beauty

There is so much beauty in the world. I just can't even get over it.

Valentine's Day tulips

The beginning.

I was a little hesitant in choosing the above title. Hopefully when read, the next thing that comes to mind isn't, "Start yours today," as in those pesky eHarmony commercials. Or are they Regardless, I suppose there is no way to start this blog other than with "the beginning." All things start with the beginning, after all.

Only time will tell how this blogging conquest will unfold. My so-called plan for this blog is to have a common ground for sharing my ideas, musings, pictures, creations...and ultimately I wanted to get use of the $40 URL I bought from GoDaddy.

So stay tuned, dear friends.
